 "Bury My Dreams"

Copper plates, concrete pedestal, speaker

2019

The state of sleep is infinitely close to temporal death, death is often likened to eternal sleep. During sleep, we often do not realize that we are in the state of sleep, but the existence of the body and the passage of time is awakened in the dream. The dream is like a connection between death and the living, then, to create a monument for a dream is to commemorate the past, to commemorate the future.

In the work “Bury My Dreams,” the dream is presented as something like a monument on the outside. The copper plate is used as a carving material, on which the dream date is engraved and the dream content is converted into a symbolic figure. The copper plate is inserted into the cement base, and the sound player will be placed inside the base. The audio is around 6~8 hours as long as the length of sleep, in the long silence, there is a brief moment in which the dream contents are read aloud.

In this way, sleeping time becomes an experienced object. The copper plates will be slowly oxidized and corroded by the environment, leaving various traces. What is commemorated will eventually be buried and replaced.
