Zhang Kerui (b.1991) lives and works in Shanghai. She focuses on things and phenomena in the state of copying and imitation, and explores the increase and loss triggered by the act of copying in the process of cultural reproduction. Her works include paintings, installations, ceramics and copper engravings. Her recent art practice is centred on the meta-media property of fire, juxtaposing the instantaneous physical form of fire with the circulation of digital flames, exploring fire as a metaphor for energy transmission and its grafting and transformation in contemporary culture.
